My dear friend, Joanna Priestley, is a well-known independent animator. She's released two compilation dvd's of her films & we offer both of them here & at the shop at Radiance in Lancaster. MOMA and PBS have done retrospectives of her work. Here are a couple of comments:

Signs Out Of Time
This documentary film is the story of archaeologist Marija Gimbutas. Produced by Starhawk and Donna Read, and narrated by Olympia Dukakis, this is the dramatic story of a renowned scholar. Her work on the Neolithic cultures of Old Europe (6500-3500 BCE), reveals evidence of peaceful, woman-honoring, Goddess-worshipping, and egalitarian civilizations that existed for thousands of years withour war. Dr Gimbutas said, "this was a long-lasting period of remarkable creativity and stability, an age free of strife. Their culture was a culture of art." "Signs Out of Time" examines Gimbutas life, her work, her theories, her critics, and her influence on scholars, feminists and social thinkers. Running time for the dvd is 58:40.

I love this cd! Grace Griffith is well-known in the Washington DC area for her pure and lovely voice. Includes songs Bound By The Beauty and The Minstrel, as well as a beautiful version of Iris Dement's My Life. Difficult to find.

This cd is a beautiful version of a Sanskrit chant, which I have seen translated several ways. Willow's translation is "May there be harmony between the mortal, immortal and divine planes. Meditate on the brilliant splendor of the Sun God. May he stimulate our intellect and inspire us to take the right action at the right time." Willow's lovely alto voice holds true on every note, and her technique on the frame drum is flawless. This recording loops beautifully for meditation or massage music.
