WHAT'S NEW?
|
Goodness, it's been a while since I posted a photo of the shop!
The one that is 3 photos down is from shortly after we opened, more than
a year and a half ago. There are hardly even any herbs on the
wall. You should see how beautiful our space is now. Here's
a more up-to-date photo. On the right side of the photo, you can
see some of the clothing I've dyed using plant dyes. The wall
hangings are hand-batiked & are fair trade from Hawaii. The table
parasol is also fair trade, from Bali. And of course, for those of us
whose eyes are aging slightly, funky reading glasses. Oh, those are wild
grape vines we have suspended from the ceiling, to give you a feeling
that you might be outdoors.

Having the shop gives me so much flexibility in stocking more of the
things I've wanted to offer! I am having so much fun selecting
unique and creative items! And slowly, but surely, I'll add them
to the web site, for those of you who can't make it in to the shop.
We've gotten some lovely, small clay sculptures which make wonderful
altar items, or gifts. You'll find them scattered around.
Look under Ceremonial, Baby & Child Care & Just for Women. Here's
one, just to give you an idea.....

It's called Artemis Dreaming. It's about 3 inches long.
Isn't it exquisite?

In late 2006, my daughter Kara & I opened a new center in downtown
Lancaster, PA. We call it
Radiance , and it
includes a shop with all of my herbal products, Fair Trade items
(aren't those market baskets from Ghana beautiful?) and hand-made items
from local artisans.
We're located at 9 W Grant St, right across the cobblestone alleyway
from Lancaster's famous Central Market. Kara teaches children's
yoga classes, and she is also a certified massage therapist, and offers Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, Reflexology, Reiki and Thai
Yoga Massage. Radiance
also is home to the Molly Keen Memorial Library, which is an
eco-feminist lending library sponsored by Full Circle Susquehanna.
Our hours are Tuesday thru Friday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9:30 am to
4
pm. Our phone number is 717-290-1517.
I have to say that deciding what to carry in the
shop continues to be a delightful adventure! In addition to the market
baskets from Ghana, we have, from Nepal, hats, scarves & gloves made
from recycled silk saris. We have aprons from Guatemala (see those
stripes in the chair in the photo above?) We have purses & bags
made of recycled silk, hemp & nettle! And we've added
cds from
Putumayo,
chocolate from
Dagoba, and flannel menstrual pads
and Moon Cups from
Glad
Rags.
Stop in and see us! And to keep current on
all of the classes & happenings at Radiance, you can subscribe to our
newsletters!
Now you can

Blogging is totally new for me, so be patient while I get in the swing
of this. I expect to post musings about what's happening in the
garden & the kitchen, as well as new things at Radiance.
 We
have an amazing selection of beautiful, hand-tied
smudge sticks!
Smudging is a way of purifying with smoke from certain sacred herbs.
The plants are harvested in an ecologically sound and sacredly
respectful way, and then made into the smudge bundles by hand.
The plants are not harmed and nothing is wasted. Using these
smudge bundles is truly a beautiful experience. We also have
Kinnick Kinnick, a traditional smoking mixture, from Native Scents,
where we get the smudge sticks.
Hot off the presses!
Wild Foods for Every Table! This wonderful new
book has lots of recipes and easy ways to incorporate wild foods into
your life! Includes contributions from Susun Weed, Gail Faith
Edwards, Wildman Steve Brill & many others!
Including me! Thanks to Tina Sams for
compiling and publishing it! You're gonna love it!
 I've
developed a new product that I'm really happy about! It's an
Absinthe Cordial Kit!
All
you need is a quart-sized canning jar, a fifth of rum & 2 weeks worth of
patience. The kit contains everything else you need, already
measured & ready to go. Instructions are included.
It's interesting - in Europe, Absinthe is still readily available at
wine & cordial stores. The problem we are (only vaguely) aware of here
in the US came during the late 1800's when the artistic community in
France made a habit of drinking it all evening, every evening. They were
convinced that their creativity was deeply enhanced. That might have
been true, but they went WAY overboard in their consumption. It's a
lovely, herbal cordial, meant for occasional moderate consumption.
This kit contains all of the herbs you'll need to make a batch of
Absinthe, the lovely Wormwood-based cordial of yore. Ingredients:
Wormwood, Star Anise, White Sage, Spearmint, Coriander seed, Caraway
seed, Cardamom pods.
We carry some gorgeous cotton
t-shirts with a design of a
Goddess in a Labyrinth! I have them in
3 different styles - spaghetti
strap, ladies tank, and crew neck T, in either purple or green!
Hand marble-dyed and screen printed by the artist! Here's the design......... Isn't She beautiful?
