Fennel seed has long been used in cooking and to preserve food. The tea is very helpful in treating upset stomachs and colic. Nursing mothers can drink the tea to aid their babes. We keep a small bowl of it on the dining room table, to chew on after a spicy meal. Cooled tea can be used as an eyewash. Also used in cough syrups.
