Wonderful astringent herb in the same family as raspberry & rose, this herb has been traditionally used to help a new mother regain her figure! Helps to tone the uterus. Carries the energy of the cloak of the Mother Goddess, hence its name. Dried aerial parts
Lavender flowers (Lavendula officinalis)
A wonderful, aromatic herb long used to reduce stress & tension. Very relaxing and calming, the scent alone can help alleviate headaches. Perfect for eye pillows! Used in sachets, bath & skin products. Add to your lemonade! Delicious in scones or sprinkled on cakes!
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
Melissa is the name of Aphrodite's Bee Priestesses. This herb is calming and cooling, a favorite for iced tea. Gentle enough for children, strong enough to reduce fevers. Lemon Balm also has a specific action on the herpes viruses. dried aerial parts
This is one of the herbs in the infusion that is the base for our Lemon Balm Shampoo! You can use it in tea blends, meads & mulled wines. Great in potpouri, simmering spice blends, soap and candle making. Let your imagination run wild! Chopped & dried.
I like to make a Licorice root glycerite - I think it extracts better in glycerine than in alcohol. Licorice is great for nourishing the adrenal glands & helps those with chronic constipation. Helps with blood sugar management, too. We have dried chopped root, root powder and licorice root sticks. The sticks made fabulous chewing sticks for teething babies since they have a slight numbing effect. People with high blood pressure should limit their licorice intake, as it might elevate the pressure.
Sometimes called the Lime Tree, especially in the Brisitsh Isles, Linden is wonderful for soothing and supporting the nervous system. Linden has a relaxing quality, so it's good for calming, and in bedtime teas. Said to be good for people who are grieving. Also helps some people with headaches, and might lower blood pressure. And the flowers smell heavenly!
Sometimes used in the treatment of asthma, this herb should be used only in small amounts. Very relaxing to the central & autonomic nervous systems. Massage oil infused with Lobelia is very good for releasing muscle spasms. dried aerial parts.
Commonly known as Queen of the Meadow, the leaves & flowers have chemical properties very similar to aspirin, and so it is used in the same way. Wonderful for headaches and arthritis pain, it will help to break a fever by inducing sweating. Mildly astringent, this is good for children with diarrhea. Said to “lighten the heart and take the weight of depression from the body and spirit.” Magically, Meadowsweet blesses marriages and loving unions, and calls fairies to join in the festivities. Perfect in herb bundles for weddings. Meadowsweet has a wonderful sweet odor & can be strewn on the floor & then swept up to fill a room with its fresh scent.
Long used in formulas for liver and gall bladder health. Thought to increase secretion and flow of bile. Also thought to increase flow of milk in nursing mothers. Whole, dried seed.
My favorite herb for dealing with hot flashes! Motherwort is the best friend of many a menopausal woman. Motherwort is a heart-strengthening herb, too, as you can see by its Latin name. Many women find that it stops menopausal flutters. Dried aerial parts
