Hecate Plaque

Hecate, sometimes spelled Hekate, is a triple Moon Goddess of the crossroads, the “Y” where three paths meet.  For many centuries, people have left offerings and prayers to Her at these crossroads.  Her lamps hold the flame which shows us our options, and perhaps the Way.

Hecate is best-known as the goddess who only one willing to tell Demeter what had happened to Persephone, when all of the other gods kept silent about her disappearance.  Hecate showed Demeter the cleft in the earth that led to the Underworld where her daughter had gone.  And then, Hecate held her lamp aloft, showing Persephone the way to emerge again, bringing the Springtime.  Hecate sees what few others see, and tells the truth of what she has seen.

So Hecate is a goddess who shows us how to hold the power of truth and honesty.  She is unafraid, and willing to accept the consequences of what she knows to be true.  She is also deeply compassionate, helping us to face and heal our woundedness.  One of her roles is as keeper of the keys to the Shamanic realms of the Upper, Middle, and Lower worlds that we each contain within us.

Here She is depicted as crowned with the crescent moon and star, Her ancient Byzantine symbol.  She stands flanked by two powerful herbs, Aconite and Datura, whose history stretches far back into antiquity. Honor this powerful goddess and ask Her to preside over all your magical endeavors!
